Jupiter’s diameter is about eleven times Earth’s

Line Earth up against Jupiter and the giant’s equatorial width is roughly eleven times ours — a disk so wide that a jet flying nonstop would need weeks to circle it once.

That span is mostly hydrogen and helium atmosphere wrapping a denser interior. Diameter makes Jupiter look like a failed star’s little cousin in silhouette, even though it never ignited fusion.

Width is the first shock of planetary scale. Eleven Earths across turns “gas giant” from a label into a measurable sky-filling ball.
