Water ice can survive in permanently shadowed lunar craters

Near the Moon’s poles, some crater floors never see sunlight. Temperatures stay so cold that water ice can linger for geologic time instead of sublimating away.

Orbiters and impact experiments have found strong signs of that ice mixed in the soil — a resource future crews might drink, breathe (as oxygen), or turn into rocket propellant.

Shadow becomes treasure. The same airless world that erases footprints can also freeze water into a polar pantry for exploration.
