A day on Ceres lasts only about nine hours

A day on Ceres lasts only about nine hours

Ceres spins once in roughly nine hours — a short day that would rush sunrise and sunset across its cratered landscape if you stood on the dwarf planet’s surface.

Dawn clocked that rotation while mapping bright spots and mountains. Fast spin is common among mid-sized belt bodies, but Ceres wears it on a world round enough to be a dwarf planet.

Day length is a lived planetary fact. Ceres reminds us that “Earth day” is not the default setting even inside the asteroid belt.
