Saturn’s moon Mimas wears Herschel Crater — about 140 kilometers across on a body only roughly 400 kilometers wide. The impact almost shattered the little world.
The round scar and raised central peak give Mimas a look fans joke looks like the Death Star. Cassini’s cameras made the resemblance famous.
One bang can redefine a moon’s face forever. Mimas is a reminder that small worlds take huge punches.
