A neutron star is only about 20 kilometers across

A neutron star can outweigh the Sun and still measure only about 20 kilometers across — roughly the size of a city, not a solar system.

It is the collapsed core of a massive star. Protons and electrons crush together into neutrons, and the whole remnant shrinks until it is denser than an atomic nucleus stretched over a skyline.

That tiny size is why pulsars can spin hundreds of times a second without flying apart. The heaviest ordinary matter we know is packed into something you could drive across before lunch.
