Why Black Holes Bend More Than Light

Why Black Holes Bend More Than Light

Why Black Holes Bend More Than Light

Black holes do not just swallow light. Their extreme gravity warps space and time so sharply that “straight” paths bend — starlight curves, clocks slow, and orbits twist near the edge of the known universe.

That warping is why we see Einstein rings, gravitational lensing, and shadows larger than the hole itself. Photons follow spacetime’s curves; when those curves steepen enough, even light cannot climb out.

Studying black holes is therefore studying geometry under stress. They rewrite maps of near and far — and remind us that gravity is not only a pull, but a shape.
