The vomit comet uses parabolic arcs to mimic weightlessness

The vomit comet uses parabolic arcs to mimic weightlessness

Reduced-gravity aircraft fly repeated roller-coaster parabolas: climb steeply, push over the top, then dive so passengers float for about 20–25 seconds at a time before pullout loads return.

Researchers nickname some flights the “vomit comet” because motion sickness is common while testing suits, medical protocols, and student experiments. NASA, ESA, and commercial operators still use the method for brief microgravity practice.

Weightlessness can be rented in arcs, not only in orbit. Parabolic flight is Earth’s cheapest rehearsal stage for floating work.
