SLS is NASA’s heavy-lift rocket for Artemis lunar missions
The Space Launch System pairs a core stage fed by four RS-25 engines with twin solid rocket boosters to loft the Orion crew capsule toward the Moon under NASA’s Artemis program.
Artemis I flew uncrewed in 2022, proving the stack through translunar injection and splashdown. Later Block versions aim for larger payloads and sustained lunar logistics.
Returning humans beyond low Earth orbit needs serious thrust. SLS is America’s government-built ladder back to deep space.
