JAXA’s HTV Kounotori once ferried Japan’s ISS cargo

JAXA’s HTV Kounotori once ferried Japan’s ISS cargo

The H-II Transfer Vehicle, nicknamed Kounotori, was JAXA’s uncrewed freighter that flew nine successful ISS cargo missions from 2009 to 2020.

It delivered both pressurized racks and external payloads, then departed to dispose of station trash.

Japan built a reliable space truck. HTV proved Asian cargo ships could share the ISS logistics burden with U.S. and European partners.
