Your aorta is about as wide as your thumb

The aorta, the great artery leaving the left ventricle, is typically about 2 to 3 centimeters across in adults — close to the width of a thumb.

Every resting beat throws a pulse of blood into that single tube before it branches toward the head, arms, and the rest of the body. Its elastic wall stretches, then recoils, which helps you feel a pulse farther downstream.

It is the widest artery you own. From that one hose the whole systemic network begins.
