The cerebellum holds more neurons than the rest of the brain combined

Packed into the small cerebellum at the back of the skull sit most of the brain’s neurons — more than in the much larger cerebral cortex.

Those dense circuits refine balance, timing, and skilled movement, and also help with aspects of cognition beyond pure motor control.

Size misleads. A compact “little brain” can outnumber the big lobes in cell count while still fitting under the occipital bone.
