Tendons tie muscle to bone and ligaments tie bone to bone

A tendon is the cord at the end of a muscle. When the muscle shortens, the tendon pulls a bone and the joint moves. Fingers, heels, and knees all run on that cable.

A ligament is a strap between bones. It does not create the pull. It limits how far the joint can slide, twist, or open, and it guides the motion back into line.

Same tough collagen, two jobs. One transmits force. The other keeps the hinge from coming apart.
