Absolute zero is −273.15°C

Absolute zero is −273.15°C, or 0 kelvin — the coldest temperature nature allows. At that point, particles hold the least possible thermal energy, and everyday ideas of “colder” simply run out of meaning.

No laboratory has ever reached absolute zero. Physicists can cool matter to within a billionth of a degree, close enough to reveal quantum oddities that stay hidden at room temperature.

Those ultra-cold experiments matter far beyond curiosity. They help test fundamental physics, build precise atomic clocks, and open paths toward quantum technologies that depend on atoms moving almost not at all.
