A single neuron can link to thousands of others

Many cortical neurons sprout thousands of synaptic contacts. One cell can listen to a crowd and broadcast to another crowd at once.

That fan-in and fan-out lets tiny circuits compute patterns — faces, words, places — without a central hard drive of “files.”

Complexity is combinatorial. Intelligence scales less from cell count alone than from how densely and flexibly those cells talk.
