Wadis are dry channels that wake only when rare storms arrive

Wadis are dry channels that wake only when rare storms arrive

Across Arabian and Saharan arid lands, a wadi is a normally dry valley or streambed carved by water that may flow only a few times a year — or less.

When a cloudburst hits upstream, the empty channel can fill in minutes, sweeping gravel, plants, and camps before the bed returns to dust.

Absence is temporary architecture. Wadis teach that desert drainage is seasonal drama, not a permanent river you can trust by eye.
