Turtles have been on Earth for over 200 million years

Turtles have carried their basic body plan for over 200 million years — outlasting non-avian dinosaurs in outline if not in every niche.

The shell is fused ribs and vertebrae grown into armor, not a bolted-on backpack.

Slow and ancient is a winning combo. When habitats shift, the fortress walks with them.
