Snow leopards cannot roar

Snow leopards cannot roar

Snow leopards lack the hyoid and larynx setup that lets lions and tigers roar. Their voice box favors other sounds: chuffs, growls, and piercing yowls.

High, rocky ranges reward quiet contact more than stadium roars. Thin air and long distances favor signals that carry without the full big-cat bellow.

“Cannot roar” is anatomy, not silence. They still speak — just in a mountain dialect of soft and sharp notes.
