Many cacti open their pores at night to save daytime water

CAM photosynthesis lets many desert cacti and succulents open stomata mainly after dark, taking in CO₂ when heat and evaporation are lower.

They store the carbon as acids overnight, then close pores by day and finish sugar-making behind a sealed, waxy skin.

Timing is a drought strategy. Night-breathing plants prove arid survival can mean changing when you drink the air.
