Dry desert air can swing more than 20°C between noon and night

With little water vapor or cloud cover to hold heat, desert ground soaks up fierce daytime sun then radiates it to a clear sky after sunset — often dropping air temperature by more than 20°C overnight.

Moist climates buffer those swings; arid ones amplify them, so jackets appear at dusk even after a scorching afternoon.

Dryness is a thermostat setting. In deserts, the same day can feel like two seasons because the air cannot bank yesterday’s warmth.
