Denali rises farther from base to peak than any other mountain

Denali rises farther from base to peak than any other mountain

Alaska’s Denali rises about 5,500 meters from surrounding lowlands to its summit — the greatest base-to-peak elevation gain of any mountain on land, even though Everest sits higher above sea level.

Its bulk and northern latitude also make weather brutal; storms can pin climbers for days below the high camp.

Rise, not just altitude, defines stature. Denali’s bulk is a staircase from forest floor to arctic sky.
