Bromeliad tanks in the canopy hold miniature ponds of rain and life
Many tank bromeliads cup overlapping leaves into waterproof cisterns high above the ground. Rain and litter collect there, creating tiny aquatic worlds for insects, frogs, and microbes that never touch the forest floor.
Those aerial ponds also feed the plant and add water storage to the canopy layer itself.
A rainforest sky is full of lakes you can hold in two hands. Biodiversity stacks vertically, pond by pond.
