A whale shark is the largest fish in the world

Despite the name, whale sharks are filter-feeding sharks — fish, not whales — that can exceed twelve meters as gentle giants of tropical seas.

They swim with mouths open, sieving plankton and small fish rather than hunting with teeth built for tearing megafauna.

Biggest fish, softest reputation. Size here is a plankton net with a heartbeat.
